Black Desert
Al Wahat Al Bahriya - Al Farafra Rd, Bawiti, EgyptIs a region of volcano-shaped and widely spaced mounds, distributed along about 30 km in western Egypt between the White Desert in the south and the Bahariya Oasis in the north. Most of its mounds are capped by basalt sills, giving them the characteristic black color.1 hour • Admission Ticket Not Included2
The Crystal Mountain is a small natural arch in the rock and the glittering calcite crystal walls make it a perfect place to pose for photos. This is what geologists call an exhumed cave , a cave complete with stalagmites and stalactites that has been thrust upwards by earth movement and with time has lost its roof to erosion and has almost weathered away. The calcite crystal developed in paleo caves of khoman chalk.
The crystal mountain stands on the very edge of the of the White Desert , and soon the black iron and basalt pebbles give way to the sand-blown chalk formations which loom on either side of the road.1 hour • Admission Ticket Not IncludedView Location

Valley of Agabat
55km N-N-E from Farafra Oasis, Farafra, EgyptValley of Agabat is deep within the white desert. You have to be there to feel the out-worldly beauty of the place. Millions of years ago, the place used to be under the sea. Over the years, unique rock formations of limestone, chalk (and maybe sand) developed. When you stand atop the small rock cliff at one of the valleys and the valley with the rock formation unfolds before you, and there is not a single trace of another living being in the whole vicinity - you'll find a unique moment of peace and contentment. Don't miss it2 hours • Admission Ticket Not Included4
White Desert
Farafra, EgyptThe White Desert Protected Area, is a national park in Egypt, first established as a protected area in 2002. It is located in the Farafra depression, 45 km north of the town of Qsar El Farafra. Part of the park is in the Farafra Oasis (New Valley Governorate).
The park is the site of large white chalk rock formations, created through erosion by wind and sand. It is also the site of cliffs (at the northern end of the Farafra Depression), sand dunes (part of the Great Sand Sea), as well as Wadi Hennis and oases at Ain El Maqfi and Ain El Wadi.
The park serves as the refuge for various animals, including the endangered Rhim gazelle and the vulnerable Dorcas gazelle, as well as Barbary sheep; jackals; Rüppell's, red and fennec foxes; and the sand cat.15 hours • Admission Ticket Not IncludedView Location5
English Mountain Bahariya Oasis
Bawiti, EgyptThe English Mountain as it is known, is a very popular Tourist attraction and located in the region most popular for adventure tourism due to its diverse landscapes of deserts and unusual rock formations, therefore attracting many visitors annually.
The name ‘English Mountain’ was given it’s name due to the British Forces occupying the region during the 1st World War in 1916 and was a reconnaissance Post in Bahariya Oasis. On top of the Mountain are ruins which help identify it from a distance. The High point of the Mountain meant that troops under the command of Captain Williams, could spot any forthcoming advances from Libyan troops who would regularly attempt invasions at the Oasis around this time.As there has been volcanic activity in this region, the Mountain has a distinct top covering of basalt and diorite. 4 hours • Admission Ticket Not Included6
Bahariya Oasis Salt Lake
El Wahat Rd, Bahariya Oasis, EgyptSalt Lake is one of several salt lakes scattered in Egypt's Western Desert. Since it is also an interesting birding site I was in there to watch migrating birds as well as to observe the annual Geminid Meteor Shower. The Sun had just sunk below the horizon and while darkness began to descend mid- and high-altitude clouds in the western sky lit up when struck by flicks of sunlight. It was now civil twilight. Evening civil twilight begins after the Sun sets and lasts until the geometric center of the sun reaches six degrees below the horizon. During evening civil twilight, only the brightest stars and planets are visible, and the horizon can still be clearly defined2 hours • Admission Ticket Not IncludedView Location7
