A Self-Guided Audio Tour of the Port of Toledo
Things to know
About the Activity
On this self-guided audio tour of Toledo, you'll embark on a voyage of Toledo’s maritime history, rewarded by Maumee River views. Join Tedd Long, writer and curator of Holy Toledo History and soak up the Port of Toledo and its maritime history on this immersive walking tour along downtown Toledo’s riverfront. You’ll follow a winding path beside the Maumee River to just past Promenade Park, where you’ll see the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge before heading back towards the starting point. Along the way, Tedd will tell you why the Warehouse District was centred on Swan Creek, and how canals helped to transform the Glass City into what it is today. You’ll also learn about the great history of the Maumee River and how, when the wind changed direction in 1894, it saved downtown Toledo. You’ll have the opportunity to explore modern Toledo, too, by visiting nearby attractions like Promenade Park and Imagination Station, or dining and drinking al fresco along Summit Street.1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours
