The main merit of their preservation to this day is that almost all of them are buried in tombstones. There are over 60,000 Thracian mounds on the territory of Bulgaria, of which only about 1000 are surveyed. Kazanlak Tomb - one of the masterpieces of Thracian construction and art, the most famous tomb in the Valley of the Thracian Kings. It was accidentally discovered during excavation works in a mound embankment in 1944. The cult complex Ostrusha near the town of Shipka, opened in 1993. It was dated in the middle of IV century BC. On an area of 100 sq.m there are six premises, one of which is a sarcophagous camera.

Like many other tombs in the Valley of the Thracian Kings and the Grifonite, it was built in the southern part of an already existing mound. The tomb of Golyama Kosmatka was opened in the autumn of 2004 and is known all over Europe. The mound was poured in the first half of the 5th century as a sacred hill.
