Askja Day Tour on Private Jeep
Things to know
About the Activity
This tour is a simply unforgettable adventure in the wild highlands. Mount Herðubreið, a majestic table mountain of a truly peculiar cake or pot shape, is the gate to the Askja area, location of two Apollo astronauts trainings in the '60, in preparation for the missions to the Moon. The dark silhouette is unmistakable even from very far away when appears in all its charm. The most precious gem of the region, though, is Askja, the caldera, a volcanic depression formed by the collapse of a magma chamber. The magnificent lunar landscape, one of the windiest and most desolate place of Iceland, is dominated by the metallic blue lake Öskjuvatn and the milky blue crater lake, Viti.10 hours to 11 hours
