The temple was built in the 11th century during the reign of King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty. As you enter the temple complex, you'll be greeted by a large stepwell known as the Surya Kund, which was built to store water for the temple. At the center of the complex is the main temple, which is dedicated to the Hindu sun god, Surya. As you approach Rani Ki Vav, you'll see a grand entrance that leads to a flight of steps that take you down to the stepwell. The stepwell is about 64 meters long, 20 meters wide, and over 27 meters deep, with seven levels of steps adorned with more than 500 sculptures. The sculptures depict Hindu gods and goddesses, mythological scenes, and scenes from everyday life.
