About the Activity
Tour with a born and raised local Alaskan Native. Learn about my culture and some history of Ketchikan. Hear about our medicinal and edible plants, how we gather and process the plants. I come from a family background of artists; my grandfather James Edenshaw helped carve Totem Bight, my brother James Edenshaw is a Tlingit Master Carver, my Uncle George Lewis Jr. was a Tlingit Code talker, and my mother did bead work. If you're interested in my culture, I bring customers to one of four locations to see Totem Poles. These beautiful monumental carvings may symbolize or commemorate ancestors, cultural beliefs, clan lineage or events. Wildlife plays a role in many Alaskan stories. Ketchikan is home to a variety of animals, including bears, eagles, deer, wolves and mountian goats. Salmon is a huge part of our economy, with five species making Ketchikan the Salmon Capital of the world. Ketchikan is the first city on the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska. Explore my home with me on a tour.3 hours
