Private Guided Fairy Tale Tour in Ogulin
Things to know
About the Activity
Ogulin is the homeland of fairy tales. As a storyteller and tour guide I am very familiar with the local stories and legends. Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić Croatia's most popular children's writer was born here, and many enjoy my storytelling of her fairy tales and local tales. People also enjoy the natural and cultural sites in the town that inspired her books.1 hour 30 minutes

Ogulin(Pass By)
Ogulin, CroatiaBelow the mountain of Klek, and above the chasm of the River Dobra, in the year 1500 Bernardin Frankopan built a fortress and this strategic move proved to be excellent because the place fulfilled its military defensive function and over the constant course of time it became a little baroque town – the homeland of fairy tales. Walking through the town take a look around you and you will notice that you are in a spacious valley surrounded by hills which is dominated by the mountain of Klek on the west side. The starting point and landmark for exploring the place is the most recognizable symbol of the town – the Frankopan tower.
From the heart of the old town, head off again and in just a few steps we are at Đula’s Abyss, we take a look at the cliff on which this place was built! The River Dobra is squeezed into the emerald karst and lost under the ground. Enjoy the view, listen to the fairy tale Reygoch performed in the place from where the writer took her inspiration for that tale.View Location1
Klek Mountain
Ogulin, CroatiaIf there is anything simple, then it is to be active in Ogulin!
The town that is located in a spacious valley, in the heart of continental Croatia, is best known to nature lovers for Klek mountain. This is understandable because the idea for the first
national mountaineering association emerged on Klek in 1874.
From whichever side you approach its 1,181-metre-high peak it is reminiscent of a sleeping giant. This is why there are famous legends about Klek’s witches and Slavic gods.40 minutes • Admission Ticket Not IncludedView Location2
Dulin Ponor
Ogulin, CroatiaIn the very centre of the town, there is a hydrogeological phenomenon of nature. Down the canyon through the very centre of the town, the River Dobra ends its aboveground course as it sinks under the rocky and steep cliffs in a huge opening. Đula abyss continues through the Medvedica cave into the longest speleological structure in Croatia. 16,396 metres of this system have been researched so far. The name of the abyss is linked to the legend of a lovesick girl named Đula or Zulejka who jumped into the abyss. Nature has played along with and complemented the legend of Đula. On the rocky cliff, one can easily see a natural bas-relief, more precisely the profile of a man who the people say is Captain Milan who is looking for where his beloved Đula disappeared. Đula’s garden is one of the main natural sets where small theatrical productions take place such as storytelling and creative workshops during the Ogulin Fairy Tale Festival which is held every year in the second weekend.20 minutes • Admission Ticket IncludedView LocationMeeting and Pickup
