This property is a significant example of the military architecture of Campeche, it was used mainly in the struggles in which the city of Campeche was immersed throughout the 19th century. At present, the Mayan Archeology of Campeche exhibits pieces from different Mayan cities, highlighting those of Calakmul. In order to reinforce the defense of the town of San Francisco de Campeche, the construction of the San Miguel redoubt began, thanks to the project presented by Ing. Agustín Crame in 1779. Once built, its original layout was modified by the Colonel of Engineers, Juan José de León, who in 1801, included two small bastions that protruded on the land side in order to protect the gate.45 minutes • Admission Ticket IncludedView Location

Catedral de Campeche
Calle 10, Zona Centro, Campeche, Mexico, 24000The exterior is decorated in a neoclassical style. It has a single nave with a cross-shaped plan and divided by quarry arches into six sections. In the last arch of the enclosure there is a transept with an octagonal dome on which a lantern rests. At the back of the nave is the presbytery with two seats: the bishop on the left side with an upper canopy and a parochial one located on the right side; both venues are guarded by two additional venues for concelebrating priests. On each side of the Presbytery there are twelve more seats, six on the right and six on the left, alluding to the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, used during important services, especially Easter. Above the presbytery is the Main Altar in the shape of a pyramid and decorated with golden rose windows, with two mystical angels in possession of adoration that replaced two large anthropomorphic lamps that represent cherubs.30 minutes • Admission Ticket IncludedView Location

Plaza de la Independencia
Calle 55, Zona Centro, Campeche, MexicoThe Plaza de la Independencia forms the heart of the Historic Center of the City of Campeche and is located on streets 8 and 10, by 55 and 57, in front of the Cathedral Church. When founding Francisco de Montejo, "el Mozo", the Villa of San Francisco de Campeche, he designated a site for the Plaza de Armas, from which the streets would be traced and would be the main nucleus of religious, political, military and social of the town; However, this square was nothing more than an empty space without paving stones and this continued until approximately 1663. In 1812 with the promulgation of the Constitution of Cádiz, Fernando VII decreed that the main square of all the Spanish towns be called henceforth " Plaza de la Constitución ", fulfilling this order a plaque with said inscription is placed and the pillory destroyed. Two years later, the same king declared the constitution void and ordered to separate the tombstone from the place, replacing it in 1820 by decree of the same monarch.45 minutes • Admission Ticket FreeView Location

The Puerta de Tierra Cultural Enclosure is a military construction that made it possible to defend land access to the city from any angle. The wall is delimited by a moat and has loopholes from which firearms were fired. It has adjoining rooms which were occupied by the head of the guard and the troops on duty. In the upper part of the Gate it has a defense system where the enemy was attacked in case of gaining access. La Puerta de Tierra has a sound and light show called "The place of the sun" that takes the viewer back to the colonial era in which the Campechanos fought and defended fiercely from pirate attacks.30 minutes • Admission Ticket FreeView Location

In 1665, the construction of the small church outside the town's walls began. Over the years the fervor towards this saint was not as important as it was with the arrival of a black Christ from Italy and commissioned by a merchant, who since his arrival was the object, and continues to be until today, of great devotion to the faithful of the neighborhood, the Black Christ of San Román. By 1680 the church was already completed and occupied an area of 330 square meters. You can still see this first building as it is crowned by battlements and roofed with a barrel vault, and two buttresses can be seen on one of its walls. Due to the growth of the town and later converted into a city, it was necessary to expand it. The new church was built with a single nave divided by four large transverse arches supported by quarry pilasters decorated with poblano mosaics, which support the beamed ceiling.30 minutes • Admission Ticket IncludedView Location
