Cromeleque dos Almendres
Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, PortugalOur meeting point for this excursion will be the Roman Temple of Évora. From there, we will embark on a short 25-minute drive to reach the Menir of Almendres, an impressive solitary standing stone.
Next, we will make a short drive to the Cromlech of Almendres, often referred to as the Stonehenge of Portugal. At the site, we will continue our discussion of the Neolithic and provide an overview of the theories associated with the monument.
You will learn about the history of this spectacular site from archaeologists specializing in the prehistory of this region.

Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, Portugal, 7005-566We will regroup and embark on a 20-minute drive to our next destination, the Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro (Anta Grande do Zambujeiro), a remarkable prehistoric funerary site. Notably larger than other existing dolmens in Portugal, this site holds great intrigue. We will delve into the archaeological discoveries made here.

If you choose the hotel pick-up option, your pick-up time may be as much as 30 minutes prior to the tour start time. We will let let you know what time you should be ready in your hotel lobby at least 24 hours prior to the tour. You will be greeted by your Tour Guide outside of your hotel. Children under the age of 12 or under 1.5 meters in height are required to sit in the back seat of the vehicle in a child car seat or booster that is appropriate to their size. We do not provide car seats, so please remember to bring your own. Please wear appropriate footwear (sneakers or hiking shoes are suggested) as reaching the sites require some walking along dirt footpaths. Please note that these footpaths may be muddy after rainy weather.
