About the Activity
MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS AND LAMAR VALLEY stand out in the upper loop of Yellowstone, because of their volcanic and glaciation history. Every hundred years or so, the hot springs migrate from one spot to another and always leave behind calcium carbonate. You could hike up the travertine terraces. Sometimes elk hang out in the village unafraid of people. Lamar Valley could have been carved out by glaciers thousands of years ago. Now what is left behind is boulders that must have also been moved by glaciers. You will see them strewn around before you get to Lamar Valley proper. The soil in Lamar is suitable for lush grass that you will see. And that attracts bison, pronghorn, elk. But it also attracts wolves and Grizzlies that want to have the other animals previously mentioned for meal. Besides these two attractions, you will also see Tower Falls as well as Calcite Springs which oozes with super hot sulfuric oil. With time left, we shall take you to the petrified tree.3 days

Tours begin in Jackson or Teton Village, with wildlife search as well as geological description of the Tetons and Blacktail Butte. There will be stops for restrooms as well as picture taking. First stop in Yellowstone will be the Lake, where we will explain its relation with the magma under the National Park. Hydrothermal and geothermal features you will see are related to the magma. In the lower Loop of Yellowstone, we shall look for more wildlife, visit the Grand Prismatic Spring, Old Faithful, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone at Artists Point, Hayden Valley, where we could see more wildlife.
