The Atomic Bomb Dome is a building that was bombed during the final stages of World War II with the first-ever deployed nuclear weapon. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was established in 1955 with the aim of conveying the reality of the damage caused by the atomic bomb to people around the world and contributing to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of everlasting world peace, which are the core values of Hiroshima.
At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, Hiroshima became the first city in the world to suffer the devastation of an atomic bomb. The city was largely destroyed, and many lives were lost. Even those who survived suffered significant physical and psychological trauma, with many survivors still experiencing suffering to this day.
The Peace Memorial Museum collects and exhibits artifacts of survivors, as well as photographs and documents depicting the devastation caused by the bombing.
