2 Days Private Tour in Okayama with Charcoal-Grilled Local Food
Things to know
About the Activity
Ueyama has been a village of rice production for over 1400 years. Recently, these terraced rice fields are being updated rapidly with unique ideas not just for rice production! At times, they serve as a stunning viewing platform perfect for eating rice balls. At other times, they become a golf course where you can get lost in play like a child. Also, they transform into a breathtaking open air site for a sauna tent. Please enjoy the spectacular view of the rice field! Do you know the difference between charcoal and firewood? We will experience making firewood from trees, and then challenge ourselves to cook using both charcoal and firewood! For dinner, we will make charcoal-grilled dishes using fresh ingredients from Kamiyama and those harvested in Okayama! Enjoy it with the freshly cooked, glossy rice harvested in the terraced fields of Ueyama. Let's experience the REAL local life by actually touching, using, and tasting the traditions of Japan!2 days

Do you know the difference between the two fuels, charcoal and firewood? In Ueyama, both are self-sufficient. The guide Mr. Daichi continues to make charcoal every year to prevent this technology and culture from disappearing.
This time, as an introduction, we'll try making firewood from trees, and then challenge ourselves to cook using both charcoal and firewood! For dinner, we will make charcoal-grilled dishes using fresh ingredients from Ueyama and those harvested in Okayama! Let's experience making charcoal!
While the guide Mr. Daichi continues farming in the terraced rice fields, the amount of charcoal he can produce in the winter is not very large. It's different from mass-produced charcoal, which is shipped out en masse as an industry. Yet he still wanted to consume the charcoal made in Ueyama and wanted people to experience it. With that in mind, he decided to start a project called "sumiCa", created by renovating an old house. The lodging facility, sumiCa, is a temporary dwelling (sumika) for those who visit Ueyama, and a space where they can experience part of rural life through the culture of charcoal making.2 hours • Admission Ticket FreeView Location
