Join guide David Robinson, Director of the MA Board of Underwater Archaeological Resources, for a 75-minute exploration of the Providence waterways & Green Jacket Shoal at Bold Point, deemed “Rhode Island’s largest ship graveyard!" Bold Point, located in East Providence, RI, had once hosted the Providence Dry Dock & Marine Railway Company, a shipyard that repaired and maintained vessels in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its floating dry dock was the first on Narragansett Bay and was used, along with two marine railways, to haul ships out of the water for repairs and service. The vessels off Bold Point were abandoned there “at the end of their working lives.’’ Many were likely transported to the company’s yard from within Providence Harbor, stripped of their valuable machinery and hardware—engines, boilers, paddle wheels, whistles, clocks, navigational instruments, rigging gear, bells, chairs and even chandeliers—and then moved a short distance to Green Jacket Shoal to rest in peace.1 hour 15 minutes

No redemption point. This is a direct entry ticketYou do not need tickets to check in. Simply check in with the last name on your reservation. This tour is ages 10+ only. We are located inside The Landing at 101 Dyer Street, Providence. (corner of Dyer & Pine streets) When checking in, explore The Landing, where you'll find RI & nautical themed gifts, ornaments, crafts, jewelry, t-shirts/sweatshirts, local art, a full service café & ice cream parlor. Providence offers metered street parking and several public parking lots. We also recommend taking your hotel shuttle, Uber or walking from your hotel, if possible. OUR TOURS LAUNCH EXACTLY AS SCHEDULED, SO YOU MUST ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY FOR CHECK-IN. The boat will not wait for late passengers. If you are late for check-in, we will offer your seats to stand-by patrons & you will miss your tour & forfeit your paid reservation. You can BYOB on any of our tours! Please bring your own plastic cups, as we do not have any supplies aboard. You may also bring your own beverages, sandwiches, snacks, etc. to enjoy during your boat ride. There are no bathrooms on our vessels. If you will need to use the restroom prior to boarding, or would like to bring a beverage or ice cream from The Landing aboard with you, please arrive at least 20 minutes early. Smoking and vaping are not permitted while aboard. Certified service dogs are allowed aboard, pets are not. For safety reasons, walkers, wheelchairs, strollers & car seats are not permitted aboard. These items may be left inside The Landing or on the docks (at your own risk) prior to boarding the vessel. Our vessels are uncovered, so please dress appropriately. Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and cold beverages are recommended during the warmer summer months. Sweaters and jackets are recommended for evening and late summer tours.
