Towan Beach is the most central of Newquay's beaches lying just below the Killacourt and Beach Road. This beach is sheltered by Towan Head and provides either small waves, ideal for novice surfers or calm waters for safe swimming. St Mawes CastleSt Mawes Castle is a four-story artillery fort, like its counterpart across the bay, and was built in the 1540s as part of the largest national coastal defence programme since the Roman era.
