A large sculpture of Christ the Redeemer on top of a hill, overlooking valleys and mountain ranges below. About 2 kilometers of hiking(one side) is required to reach the place. Especially popular for sunset views.This hidden gem is located in Kannur district of Kerala, in the small town of Thabore. While the much famous Christ the Redeemer of Rio, Brazil overlooks a beautiful city, this one pretty much overlooks sparsely populated valleys and peaks of the Western Ghat mountains.
The best time to arrive here is in the late afternoon/ evening. It will be extremely warm if you are here during midday, especially since the tree cover in the hiking trail is sparse. You will be able to see the tall mountain with the distinct statue from far afar. After parking the vehicle downhill, a two-kilometer hike is required to reach the statue and the viewpoint. The hiking route is pretty visible but there are steep climbs and loose rocks all throughout.
Upon reaching the top, you will notice that the area is filled with many birds as the grasslands of the mountain provide ideal nesting habitats. The views of the valleys and mountains below are extremely pleasurable, especially with the sunset on the horizon. The sun while setting behind the mountains unleashes you with the views of chains of mountains that are part of the Western Ghats.
