About Union Bridge

The Union Chain Bridge links England and Scotland, crossing the River Tweed between Horncliffe in Northumberland and Fishwick in Berwickshire. This is supposedly the oldest suspension bridge in the world still in use by road traffic and at the time of its building was the longest suspension bridge in the world and the first to carry road traffic.

Berwick CastleBerwick Castle was a ruined 12th-century castle built by David I of Scotland but, alongside the town, it regularly changed hands between the English and Scots. In 1292 Edward I declared his verdict on the Scottish succession within the castle's Great Hall. Much of the fortification was destroyed by the construction of the railway in the nineteenth century.
