The Sriram Sagar Project was begun in the late 1960s with the goal of providing irrigation and drinking water to the surrounding area. Construction of the dam began in 1969 and was completed in 1979. The reservoir created by the dam is one of the largest in India, and it provides water for both irrigation and domestic use. 

The project has also had a positive impact on fish production in the river, as well as on tourism and recreation. In recent years, however, the project has come under criticism for its environmental impact, as well as for its social and economic costs due to loss of wildlife habitat and introduction of invasive species

The best time to visit the Sriram Sagar Project is during the monsoon season, from June to September. This is when the reservoir is at its fullest, and the surrounding hills are green and lush. The resorvoir is also gets opened during monsoon season to let water out, it is a spectacular watch. 

The monsoon season is also a great time for birdwatching, as many migratory birds come to the Sriram Sagar Project during this time of year.

2. The Pochampad Dam provides irrigation to an area of about 740 square kilometers spread over 12 districts in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states. 
3. A striking feature of this dam is the spillway section which has 48 radial gates, each 15 meters wide and 18 meters high. When all the gates are opened, 84,000 cubic meters of water can flow out per second – an incredible sight!
4. The main source of water for the dam is the River Godavari.

The nearest railway station is located in Nizamabad Junction, which is about an hour away from the dam. You can take a taxi or bus to reach the Sriram Sagar Project.

The entrance fee for the dam is 30 rupees for adults and 15 rupees for children. Foreign nationals are required to pay 100 rupees. Admission is free for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The timings for visiting the dam are from 9 am to 5 pm daily.
