About Salzburg Museum
Salzburg Museum is the museum of artistic and cultural history of the city and region of Salzburg, Austria. Itwas founded in 1834, when a small collection of military memorabilia was made accessible to the public to formalize the memories of the Napoleonic wars. After the Revolution of 1848, the collection became the official town museum of Salzburg. MozartplatzA historic square located in the centre of Salzburg's Old Town, in close proximity to Residenzplatz and Salzburg Cathedral. In the centre of the Mozartplatz is the Mozart statue by Ludwig Schwanthaler. The statue was to be erected in 1841 on the 50th anniversary of W. A. Mozart's death. The square was created by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau who ordered the demolition of a number of houses on this site in the early 17th century.
