Lake Harding is a reservoir created in 1954 by the construction of the Walter F. George Dam on the Chattahoochee River. The lake is named for Joseph F. Harding, Jr., who was the chairman of the Georgia Power Company at the time the dam was built. Lake Harding covers an area of approximately 15,000 acres and has a shoreline of approximately 300 miles. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, swimming, boating, and camping.
