About Lake Hartwell dam
Lake Hartwell Dam is one of the largest manmade reservoirs in the southeast United States. Constructed in the 1950s solely for the purpose of hydropower production, it also helps to control flooding on both sides of the state line. It covers nearly 56,000 acres with over 900 miles of shoreline and has become an important recreational area for boating, fishing, and camping.
