About Simmons College of Kentucky
Simmons College of Kentucky is a historically black college located in Louisville, Kentucky. Founded in 1879, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) west of the Allegheny Mountains. Originally established as the Kentucky Normal and Theological Institute, the college underwent several name changes before adopting its current name in 1918 in honor of its founder, former slave William J.
