What travellers say about Tangasseri Lighthouse
Thangassery light house is the one of the two light houses in kollam maintained by the cochin directorate of lighthouses and light ships which came into operation from 1902. The view from the top of the lighthouse is so mesmerising and can get the stunning view of kollam bay.
We arrived 10 minutes to the closing time fearing that the management will not let us in but that was really unwanted. Took the tickets, then the lift to the top, and through the plight of narrow winding staircases to reach the light room where a large lamp and its machinery dispersing the light in 360 degrees.
On the side of the light room is the opening to the outer walkway and boy, the view was amazing from up there. We were on top right at the time of sunset, the view of the red sun slowly below the horizon is just beautiful. Fishing boats is scattered in the ocean and far away, the harbor of Kollam makes its own show with the number of colorfully painted boats that are parked in its waters.
There is a long walkway near the lighthouse where you can slowly pace yourself enjoying the cool breeze and views, the sound of the waves soothing to the ears.
