About Capitancillo Island
Capitancillo Islet is a small uninhabited island situated close to the City of Bogo in northern Cebu. The six-hectare islet features three recognized dive sites and is a part of a protected marine sanctuary. The island has a lighthouse that uses solar energy for power. It is located right beside the original lighthouse, which is among the oldest in the province of Cebu. Magellan's MarkerMagellan Marker was constructed to mark the spot where Ferdinand Magellan died. He was a great explorer who spread Christianity in Cebu and was killed in the Mactan Island in an effort to spread the faith. Spanish Governor-General Francisco Alcala approved the plan to construct the monument to commemorate the life of the Portuguese “discoverer” of the Philippines- Ferdinand Magellan. According to historians the original monument was a monument-cum-lighthouse.
