About Tropical Islands
This unique tropical theme park is located in the previous Brand-Briesen Airfield in Halbe, Germany, 50 km from Berlin's southern boundary. The former airship hangar that was known as the Aerium, is the world's biggest free-standing hall with a capacity of up to 8,200 visitors a day. Inside the hall, the air temperature is 26 °C (78°F) and air humidity is around 64%. Freilandmuseum Lehde(Open Air Museum Lehde)Open Air Museum Lehde includes three houses, with eleven estate and residential buildings that were built in 1957. It provides insight into the Sorbian/Wendish population's way of life until the middle of the 19th century.
Bismarck TowerBismarckturm or Bismarck Tower, a 28 meters heigh monument located on the Schlossberg north of Burg. The construction of the structure started in 1915 and completed in 1917. In 1951 the tower was renamed the Tower of Youth and renamed to be Bismarckturm in October 1990.
Botanical Garden and Botanical MuseumThe complex consists of several buildings and glass-houses which features a collection of orchids, carnivorous plants and giant white water lily. The best-known part of the garden is the Great Pavilion (Großes Tropenhaus). The temperature inside is maintained at 30 °C and air humidity is kept high. Among the many tropical plants it hosts a giant bamboo.
Museum Village DüppelMuseum Village Düppel (Museumsdorf Düppel) is an open air museum presenting a reconstruction of an 800 year old village. The site of the formal settlement where the museum stands is now reconstructed with residences, storehouses, workshops, wells, fields and gardens. Uncoverd in 1967, it is estimated that the former settlement dates back to 1200 and was in use for 30 years.
Stasi MuseumResearch and memorial centre showcasing the political system of the former East Germany. It is located in the former headquarters of the Stasi(Ministry for State Security), the official state security service of the East Germany. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the office and working quarters of the former head of the Stasi – Erich Mielke.
