About îlets Pigeon
The Pigeon islets are two small islands - called Grand Îlet and Petit Îlet - located off Malendure, in the town of Bouillante, in Guadeloupe. This site is part of the Cousteau reserve. The name "Pigeon" is that of a landowner in the xvii th century. The islets have also been called "îlets à Goyave", although there is no trace of the fruit on these islands. Réserve CousteauThe Cousteau reserve is a protected maritime area located mainly in the town of Bouillante and partly in that of Pointe-Noire. It was part of the Guadeloupe National Park and covers an area of 400 hectares around the Pigeon islets, facing Malendure beach. The area protects the seabed and limits fishing. The area is rich in biodiversity, from coral reef sponges to turtles, crayfish, eels, and seahorses.
