FestungsbergThe Festungsberg is the hill on which the Festung Hohensalzburg rests. It is considered to be one of the "Stadtberge" and geologically speaking, one of the northern-most outposts of the Alps. Archaeological findings date back to the Celtic La Tène culture. The area was fortified during the days of the Roman above the city of Iuvavum until King Odoacer of Italy commanded to leave the Province of Noricum in 488.
GaisbergThe Gaisberg is a popular local mountain just a few kilometers from Salzburg's Old Town. With an elevation of 1287 m above sea level. It is a beautiful location for recreational sports, hiking and nature. The Gaisberg has been a popular destination for daytrippers from Salzburg already in the 18th century. The Gaisberg road became the venue of a car and motorcycle hillclimb race between 1929 and 1969, which was part of the European Hillclimb Championship.
GeiereckGeiereck is a peak in Salzburg and has an elevation of 1,805 metres. Geiereck is situated nearby to Richtfunkanlage, and close to Restaurant Seilbahnstation. In the immediate vicinity to the northeast is the mountain station of the Untersberg cable car and a few meters to the northwest is the Zeppezauerhaus .
HaunsbergThe Haunsberg is an 835 meter high, mostly wooded ridge in the north of the Salzburg-Umgebung (Flachgau) district in the Austrian state of Salzburg. At the top, there is a symbolic tree that is considered a symbol of the northern Flachgau region, as well as a radar system from Austro Control and a number of prehistoric sites. For tourist purposes, a circular route has been signposted from the Kaiserbuche to the south . There is also a hiking trail along the ridge.
Hellbrunner BergThe Hellbrunn mountain is the southernmost city mountain in the city of Salzburg . It is entirely located within the palace gardens of Hellbrunn Palace and the Hellbrunn Zoo. The mountain has a settlement history of at least four thousand years, stretching from the Neolithic to the pre-Roman La Tène period. It is one of the iconic location in this area and it offers nice views too.
KapuzinerbergA majestic hill on the eastern bank of the Salzach river in the city of Salzburg in Austria, which rises to an elevation of 640 metres. The dense forest flanking the mountaintop itself is a popular recreation area for city hikers and fans of outdoor exercise. The mountain is home to churches, an abbey, along with meandering hiking paths, and even chamois. It offers to the visitors delightful walking possibilities along the many hiking trails, particularly along the Basteiweg.
Kleiner BarmsteinKleiner(Small) Barmstein and the nearby Großer(Great) Barmstein are two rock towers in the border of Austria and Germany, raising above the Austrian town of Hallein. They are each about 841 and 851 meters above sea level. Both the rock pinnacles are popular with climbers and also be climbed using rock steps with railings and secured cables. In order to reach the towers, a 2 to 3 hour hike is required through the beautiful lower Alps mountains.
MönchsbergMönchsberg is one of five mountains in the city of Salzburg in Austria. It flanks the western side of Salzburg's historic city centre, and forms part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is capped by a plateau of meadows and woodlands; one reason it is such a popular recreation area for locals as well as a destination for tourists.
NocksteinThe Nockstein is a popular hiking destination at a height of 1042 meters. The rock formation ranges up about 300 m. From the summit is a fantastic view to the Flachgau and into the Salzkammergut. It consists of limestone and belongs to the northern limestone Alps . The mountain in the Flachgau municipality of Koppl has been used more and more since the second half of the 19th century.
Richterhöhe, MönchsbergRichterhöhe is the highest point on the Mönchsberg in Salzburg . The two kennels in the southwest of the Mönchsberg, the upper falcon kennel and the lower Bertholdszwinger are part of the historical fortifications of the mountain. They originate mainly from the Middle Ages, but are sometimes mistakenly called Lodronsche Zwinger or Paris-Lodron-Zwinger after Prince Archbishop Paris von Lodron.
Salzburger HochthronTjhe Salzburger Hochthron is the second highest peak of the Untersberg massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps after the Berchtesgadener Hochthron. In addition to the short ascent from the Untersbergbahn, several marked trails lead to the summit of the Salzburger Hochthron, these require surefootedness and good physical condition.
