Cochem CastleThe Reichsburg Cochem (Cochem Castle) had its first documented mention in 1130. In 1151, it was occupied by King Konrad III, who declared it an Imperial castle. In 1688, the castle was overrun by French King Louis XIV's troops in the course of the Nine Years' War or War of the Palatine Succession, and the following year, they destroyed it. DonnersbergFormed during the Permian period from volcanic activities, Donnersberg is the highest peak of Palantine region in Germany. Covering an area of over 2,000 hecatares, the peak has a diameter of 7 kilometers. The mountain and the surronding area is an importance place for old settlements, of which only ruins remains today. The 4,700 km Eurpean Walking Route E8 passes through the mountain.
