Whitelee is the largest onshore windfarm in the UK and the second largest in Europe. Its 215 turbines are capable of generating up to 539 megawatts of electricity on a windy day. It is also home to the unique Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre, offering a hands-on interactive experience for all, bringing renewable energy to life.

It was ruinous by the nineteenth century but was later restored and used as a church until the 1970s when a dedicated building was constructed directly abutting the old castle. The castle has been restored and is now part of the Maxwell Mearns Castle Church. It also gives its name to nearby Mearns Castle High School.

There was an iron age fort on the summit, and at present, visitors could enjoy panoramic views over greater Glasgow from the summit. Since 1981 Duncarnock Fort has been classified as a Scheduled Monument in the Scottish Monument Lists.
