About De Onlanden
The De Onlanden area is located in the north of Drenthe and is approximately 2500 ha. big. The name chosen in 2009 is due to the combination of large-scale nature development and large-scale water storage , which makes part of the area 'onland' again. Museum NienoordMuseum Nienoord is a 19th century Groningen country estate of allure, with a unique collection of carriages of national importance. The museum is located on the leafy Nienoord estate in Leek, fifteen kilometers west of the city of Groningen. On the estate you will find Borg Nienoord with a beautiful courtyard and garden. Around the courtyard you will find the Orangery, where the ticket office and the museum shop are located, the horse stables and the coach house.
Museum Het Joodse SchooltjeThe Jewish School is a former school building for Jews in the Groningen village of Leek . It has been functioning as a museum and memorial since 1995.The first Jewish inhabitant of Leek is mentioned in 1705 and more followed in the course of the 18th century. By 1783, the Jewish population had grown so much that a cemetery was established. The Jewish School was built in 1855 on the street 'Boveneind'. Jewish children were taught the Hebrew language and religious education.
