SelwerdSelwerd is a residential area in the city of Groningen and a neighborhood within the Noordwest district of the Dutch municipality of Groningen. Selwerd was originally the name for an area north of the city of Groningen. Since the 1960s, part of that area has been a residential area of the city.
De OnlandenThe De Onlanden area is located in the north of Drenthe and is approximately 2500 ha. big. On the northern side of the ring road, the park merges into the site of the former castle Selwerd and the Paddepoelsterweg towards the Van Starkenborgh Canal. The park was created in the 1970s as a neighborhood park for Selwerd and Paddepoel. The route of the Pieterpad runs through the park.

It has been functioning as a museum and memorial since 1995.The first Jewish inhabitant of Leek is mentioned in 1705 and more followed in the course of the 18th century. By 1783, the Jewish population had grown so much that a cemetery was established. The Jewish School was built in 1855 on the street 'Boveneind'. Jewish children were taught the Hebrew language and religious education.
