Emerald CoveEmerald Cove is a beautiful, secluded cove on the Colorado River, a few kilometers downstream from the Hoover Dam. This area is known for its clear greenish-blue waters. Emerald Cove gets its name from the beautiful green water that is created by the sun reflecting off the white silt that lines the bottom of the cove.
Black CanyonThe Black Canyon of the Colorado is the canyon on the Colorado River where Hoover Dam was built. The canyon is located on the Colorado River at the state line between Nevada and Arizona. The western wall of the gorge is in the El Dorado Mountains, and the eastern wall is in the Black Mountains of Arizona. The canyon formed about 15 million years ago during the Miocene Basin and Range uplift. Black Canyon gets its name from the black volcanic rocks that are found throughout the area.
Arizona Hot Spring TrailheadA beautiful trail located along the Colorado River just south of the Hoover Dam. Tucked away inside a colorful slot canyon, these hot springs offer a beautiful environment to enjoy a nice long soak.
Liberty Bell ArchLiberty Bell Arch is located in a very accessible region of the park. It is so named for it's resemblance to the famous Liberty Bell, at Independence National Historic Park in Pennsylvania. It even includes the "clapper", or the round part of the bell that causes it to ring.Over millions of years nature formed this geologic structure that is more commonly found in Arches National Monument.
Mount WilsonMount Wilson is a mountain in Mohave County, Arizona, U.S. At 5,456 feet, it is the second highest point of the Black Mountains after Mount Perkins. Mount Wilson Wilderness is a 23,900-acre protected wilderness area centered around the mountain, established in 1990 under the Arizona Desert Wilderness Act and managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This desert wilderness includes eight miles of the Wilson Ridge and is surrounded by the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Hoover DamA concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. The dam's generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California. Hoover Dam is a major tourist attraction; nearly a million people tour the dam each year.
