History of Highline Lake State Park

The history of Highline Lake State Park begins with its construction in the 1930s. The lake, located on an elevated mesa abovesweet grassy meadows and broad Horizons spans over 90 Acres making it one big fishing hole that you can go to any time. It was was originally named James M. Robb – Colorado River State Park. It was renamed Highline Lake State Park in honor of the lake’s position atop a mesa.

  5. Highline Lake is actually a reservoir, created in 1962 when the slender Little Snake River was dammed.

How to Reach Highline Lake State Park

The closest town is Debeque, which is about 20 miles away. To reach the park, take Interstate 70 east from Grand Junction for about 15 miles. Take the exit for Colorado Highway 65 and turn north. Follow Highway 65 for about 5 miles to the town of Debeque. From Debeque, follow the signs to Highline Lake State Park. The drive from Grand Junction takes about 30 minutes.

Entrance to the Highline Lake State Park is not free of charge. A day pass costs $7, or a yearly Colorado State Pass is $70.
