James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park - 13 Things to Know Before Visiting

The history of the park dates back to the late 19th century when the area was homesteaded by farmers and ranchers. In the early 20th century, the Grand Valley Irrigation Project was constructed in the area, which brought water to the arid region and made agriculture possible. In the 1980s, the decision was made to create a state park in the area. Since its establishment, James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park has become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The park was established in 1988 and covers an area of ​​1,332 acres. It is named after James M. Robb, who served as the Director of the Colorado State Parks from 1974 to his retirement in 1991.

The best time to visit James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park is during the summer months when the weather is warm and sunny. During this time of year, the park is open for camping, hiking, picnicking, fishing, and boating. 

Winter is also a lovely time to visit, when the air is crisp and the landscapes are blanketed in snow.

2.  The park has more than 12 miles of trails, so don't forget your hiking shoes! 
3. There are four different camping areas in the park, each with its own set of amenities. Be sure to check the website in advance to see which one would be best for your group.

5. Make sure to follow all the signs and obey all park rules so everyone can have a safe and enjoyable experience.

3. summer rains can cause flash flooding in the area so it is important to be aware of changing weather conditions when visiting the park. 
4. The park also has a visitor center, which offers interpretive programs and exhibits on the area's history and culture.
5. The Island Acres segment has campsites and a swim beach. The Fruita segment also has campsites. The other three segments, Corn Lake, Connected Lakes and the Colorado River Wildlife Area are for day use only.

Maximum stay in the park is 7 days with a 14 day limit per calendar year.

There are multiple ways to reach the park, depending on your mode of transportation. If you are driving, take Exit 25 off of I-70 and head south on Colorado Highway 65 for about 6 miles. If you are using public transportation, take the RIDE westward from either the Glenwood Springs or Fruita station and exit at the Colorado Highway 65 stop. 

The entrance fee for the park is $7 per vehicle or $4 per person if you are walking or biking. 

The park is open year-round from 5:00am to 10:00pm.
