History of Log Hill Mesa

Log Hill Mesa is a rural unincorporated community in Ouray County, Colorado, USA. According to the Western History/Genealogy Department at the Denver Public Library, the Log Hill Mesa area was first settled in 1875. The settlers were primarily ranchers and farmers who were drawn to the area by the fertile soil and mild climate. The community grew steadily over the next few decades, and by 1900 it had a population of nearly 500. However, the population began to decline after World War II, and by 1970 it had fallen to just over 200. Today, Log Hill Mesa is a quiet community with a population of less than 400. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, hardware store, and gas station. There are also several churches and a K-8 school. Log Hill Mesa is a popular destination for hikers and campers due to its proximity to the San Juan Mountains.
