The Ridgway Reservoir is a man-made body of water located in Ouray County, Colorado. The reservoir was created in 1954 with the construction of the Ridgway Dam on the Uncompahgre River. The primary purpose of the reservoir is to provide irrigation water for agriculture in the area. However, it is also a popular recreation spot, offering boating, fishing, and camping opportunities. The reservoir is surrounded by scenic mountains, and its clear waters make it a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkeling. The best time to visit Ridgway Reservoir is from June to September when the weather is warm and dry. This is also the peak season for wildlife viewing.

3. Please be aware that there are no lifeguards on duty, so swim at your own risk.

 To reach Ridgway Reservoir, take Highway 550 north from Ouray for about eight miles. The reservoir will be on your left. There are several pull-offs along the highway where you can park and enjoy the view. 

There is no entrance fee to explore this area. 

during the summer months, the reservoir is open from dawn to dusk, and in the winter, it is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.
