About Gelderland
Gelderland is a province of the Netherlands, occupying the centre-east of the country. With a total area of 5,136 km2. It is a popular tourist destination and the site of the famous WWII battle in 1944. As a result of the conflict, the city center was destroyed. Africa MuseumThe Africa Museum in Berg en Dal is devoted to art from and cultures of the African continent. Founded in 1954, the museum started out as the Mission Museum of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. The fathers of this order collected African objects to learn more about African religions. You can explore the rich tradition and culture of different peoples. Stilt houses from the coastal area of Benin, hidden fortresses on the vast sandy plains from Mali, round houses of the Kusasi from Ghana.

Beginpunt N70 NatuurwandelrouteThe Nature Walk N70 is a walking route in the towns of Beek , Ubbergen and Berg en Dal near Nijmegen. The abbreviation N70 refers to the Nature Conservation Year 1970 established by the European Council , as a result of which this route was plotted. The traditional starting point is in the middle, at hotel 't Spijker. But you can also start at other points along the route.

BruukDe Bruuk is a nature reserve of approximately 100 ha between Breedeweg and De Horst in the municipality of Berg en Dal on the border with Germany .De Bruuk is a swamp area that is fed by seepage water from the surrounding hills. It partly consists of blue grassland and is therefore protected as a Natura 2000 area. The area is owned by Staatsbosbeheer and private individuals. De Leigraaf runs through the area.

Castle HernenHernen Castle, locally known as Kasteel Hernen, lies in the village with the same name, in the Gelderland province in the Netherlands. It probably originated around 1350, and then consisted of only one residential tower (keep). Later it was repeatedly expanded, with the former courtyard increasingly being filled. The residential tower collapsed in the 18th century.

Cenakelkerk, Heilig Landstichting, GroesbeekThe Cenakelkerk in Heilig Landstichting was built between 1913 and 1915 as a parish and pilgrimage church . The church is unique in Dutch church architecture. Due to the design and detailing that are grafted onto early Christian architecture and Arabic styles , the church and the other buildings of the National Monument Heilig Land Stichting are seen as a unique example of orientalism in the Netherlands.

The center provides an overview of the connection between the city and the river Waal over the centuries: from the formation of the landscape to the present. De Millinger TheetuinThe Millinger tea garden is a Moorish style tea garden in the Dutch municipality of Berg en Dal. The garden is located in the middle of the 'De Millingerwaard ' nature reserve, which is managed by the World Wildlife Fund and Staatsbosbeheer. In the garden there is a Moorish tea house with veranda, a Moroccan tea house and a Moroccan square with water feature. There are several water basins. Banana plants , palms , figs and other Mediterranean plants are in pots in the garden.

De OversteekThe Crossing , also called City Bridge, is a bridge for car traffic over the Waal, in Nijmegen. The road over the bridge has been named General James Gavinsingel since 2016. The river crossing was opened in November 2013 and is located west of the two existing Nijmegen bridges. On the south side, the bridge connects to the Verlengde Energieweg, on the north side to the Graaf Alardsingel.

DuivelsbergDuivelsberg is a hill and nature reserve in the municipality of Berg en Dal in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It covers around 125 hectares and is mainly covered with deciduous trees, especially with the sweet chestnut. It is managed by Staatsbosbeheer.The hilly forests are the main atraction, as the forest is quit old many birds breed here.

Foundation Hortus NijmegenHortus Nijmegen is a botanical garden in Nijmegen set up according to insights from Jac. P. Thijsse . It is part of Park Brakkenstein and was built between 1969 and 1971.At the entrance of the botanical garden is a rocky hill built with boulders from the Ardennes. This rocky mound was built in the 1970s because a number of biologists from the university wanted to research rock plants from the Alpine region.

GoffertparkThe Goffertpark is a public park in Nijmegen. Sixty acres of woodland and heathland changed in the thirties by the effort of Nijmegen unemployed in a spacious park, including provision of sports fields, a stadium, a teahouse and a zoo. It is sometimes used as an outdoor concert venue, there's also the stadium of football club N.E.C.

Groesbeek Canadian War CemeteryThe Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial is located about three kilometres north of the village of Groesbeek, Netherlands. The cemetery contains 2,338 Canadian soldiers of World War II. It was built to a design by Commission architect Philip Hepworth. The memorial consists of twin colonnaded buildings which face each other across the grass forecourt of the cemetery, between the entrance and the "Stone of Remembrance."

Groesbeekse BosGroesbeekse Bos is the name of a collection of forest plots in the former municipality of Groesbeek (now Berg en Dal ) that are managed by Staatsbosbeheer . The rolling forest landscape is located west of Groesbeek in Gelderland , partly on the border of Limburg . The area is part of the historic Ketelwald , which was split into the Nederrijkswald and the Reichswald due to changing borders and later by subdivision into different forest plots. The Pieterpad crosses the area.

Heerlijkheid BeekDe Heerlijkheid Beek is a nature reserve near Berg en Dal in the municipality of the same name , which is managed by the Het Geldersch Landschap foundation. It covers a hilly area of 49 hectares , which is part of the moraine around Nijmegen . The landscape consists of forests in the higher parts and meadows in the lower parts, also known as the Elysian Fields.

Heumense SchansThe Heumense schans is a former defense work and current nature reserve near Molenhoek in the Dutch province of Limburg and is located near the current Nijmegen-Venlo railway line within walking distance of Mook Molenhoek Station. The redoubt and the surrounding area is a nature reserve and is owned by Natuurmonumenten . The area connects to the Mookerheide and the Heumensoord forest area.

HeumensoordHeumensoord is an area of more than 600 hectares in Gelderland that mainly consists of coniferous forest. it is part of the chain of forests between Nijmegen and Mook that becomes richer and more varied towards the east, but towards the west increasingly drier, poorer and also poorer in species. Military exercises are sometimes held in the surrounding forest, sometimes closing parts of the area to the public. In the south of the area is the Malden Glider Airfield.

Huis van de Nijmeegse GeschiedenisThe Mariënburgkapel is a national monument in the city center of the Dutch city of Nijmegen in the province of Gelderland. The chapel was built around 1431 as part of the Mons Mariae monastery outside the city walls , later corrupted to Mariënburg . Since about 1412 , this place has been a beguinage for the Sisters of the Common Life and the Modern Devotion movement . The monastic order joined the Windesheim chapter in 1453.
