About Seitenstetten Abbey

Seitenstetten Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Seitenstetten in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria. The monastery was founded in 1112 by Udalschalk, or Udiskalk, a relative of Bishop Ulrich of Passau, to which he gave all his estates as an endowment. In 1114 the new foundation was settled by monks from Göttweig Abbey.

SteyrThe Steyr is a river in Upper Austria. Its length is approx. 68 km. Its drainage basin is 917 km2. Rising in the Totes Gebirge at Hinterstoder, it flows into the Enns in the town Steyr. There both rivers form a "Y". The city of Steyr uses this "Y" for marketing purposes. An iconic location for a shirt picnic and also there are so many things to see and do here.

Museum Arbeitswelt SteyrThe Working World Museum in Steyr deals with the changes in the world of life and work since industrialization . It is located in revitalized factory buildings from the mid-19th century on the Steyr River . Museumsbahn SteyrtalThe narrow-gauge Steyrtalbahn ran from Garsten via Grünburg and Molln to Klaus with a side wing from Pergern via Sierning to Bad Hall in Upper Austria . Today it only runs as a museum train on weekends in the summer months, in Advent and around the turn of the year. It leads through beautiful forest and meadow landscapes along the Steyr, one of the cleanest rivers in Austria.

Burg ClamBurg Clam was built in 1149 by Otto von Machland who owned all of Upper Austria. At that time it was a fortress consisting of two towers over 30 meters high. These two impressive buildings, one round and one rectangular, still exist in the very same shape today. It is still the residence of Count Clam and can also be visited as such. Founded in the early ninth century, and later refounded by Augustinians in the eleventh century, St. Florian is the largest monastery in Upper Austria, and rivals Melk Abbey and Klosterneuburg Monastery as among the most impressive examples of Baroque architecture in Austria. The monastery is dedicated to Saint Florian, whose fourth century grave lies beneath the monastery.
