SpiegelwaalThe Spiegelwaal is a secondary channel of approximately 4 kilometers in the Waal near Nijmegen. The channel was constructed between 2013 and 2015 as part of the Room for the Waal project. The Spiegelwaal is not a through route for shipping. The water is therefore particularly suitable for water sports such as canoeing, rowing, windsurfing and sailing. A rescue brigade is also active for water sports enthusiasts and recreational swimming.
Veur-LentVeur-Lent is a peninsula in the river Waal . The so-called city island is located in the Dutch municipality of Nijmegen , north of the city center. The island can be reached on foot from the Waalbrug , the Spoorbrug and the De Oversteek . From Lent, a road bridge, De Lentloper , and a pedestrian and cyclist bridge, the Zaligebrug, were built to Veur-Lent.
KruittorenThe Kruittoren is a remnant of the old ramparts of Nijmegen and is located on the Parkweg , on the edge of the Kronenburger Park . The tower was founded in 1426 and is about 30 meters high. In the nineteenth century , when the fortifications were sold, the state deliberately kept the tower in ownership to prevent the tower from being demolished. The tower was owned by the Government Buildings Agency until January 15, 2016 , but was then transferred to the National Monuments Organization.
KronenburgerparkThe Kronenburgerpark is a park in the center of Nijmegen . It is close to the station and the Lange Hezelstraat . Where the park meets the Parkweg are the remains of the medieval ramparts with the Powder Tower. There are three old ramparts in the park : De Kruittoren, St. Jacobstoren and De Roomse Voet.The Powder Tower was built in 1425-1426 as part of the second city wall, which formed a corner at this point. The tower is about thirty meters high.
WaalbrugThe Waalbrug is an arch bridge over the Waal River in Nijmegen, Gelderland, the Netherlands. The full length of the Waalbrug is 604 metres, the middle of the arch being about 65 metres. Unlike many other bridges from the same period and with the same construction, like the IJsselbrug near Zwolle, the Graafsebrug and the bridge near Arnhem, the Waalbrug is an arch bridge in the literal sense: all forces truly work on the two pylons.
